AOTA 9th Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association Congress

Greetings from Nagoya, Japan

It is with great honor for Japan Thyroid Association (JTA) to host the 9th Congress of the Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA) in Nagoya in November 2009.  AOTA congresses are usually held in-between International Thyroid Congresses that take place every 5 years.  However, in the 8th AOTA Congress in Manila in 2007, the AOTA council members had decided that we should get together more frequently; thus, this forthcoming Nagoya Congress comes only 2 years after the last congress held in the Philippines.

This Congress will be a joint meeting of AOTA and JTA which is holding its 52th Annual Meeting. This auspicious combined event will start on November 2 as the AOTA Congress -- with English as the language during the proceedings -- and will continue till November 4 with the Shizume Lecture and the International Symposium on Molecular Thyroidology.  The proceedings in English will close after the AOTA General Assembly; thereafter followed by sessions in Japanese.  A half-day city tour is scheduled on November 3 (for foreign participants) followed by the Congress Banquet.

In the Nagoya Congress we shall put more emphasis on scientific communications rather than on educational programs.  We shall invite many active investigators within and outside Asia and Oceania; thus, we expect a great number of abstracts for oral and poster sessions from as many countries.  We hope that the participants will be satisfied with the scientific program to be prepared.  The Local Organizing Committee is setting the registration fee as low as possible and is getting a variety of accommodations according to your budget.

The start of November is the right time to visit Nagoya with its pleasantly cool and fine weather.  Nagoya is located in the center of the Main Island of Japan and is connected to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka by our famous rapid train system, the Shinkansen.  Either before or after the Congress, you are cordially invited to visit these great cities.  You will find the connection between Nagoya International Airport and Nagoya downtown to be very convenient with frequent train services taking only 28 minutes from the airport to Nagoya Station.

So come to Nagoya and enjoy Japan!
